Game review 50: Slide Quest
A board game like a video game – Slide Quest plays straight out of the box
FIFTY GAMES!? Reviewed since November?
This account has been a saving grace in troubled times. A way to bond and gain a common interest in my daughter. And a way to prevent a slide into madness in this crazy modern world.
Yes, that is a conveniently timed segue to prevent any unseemly descent into earnestness. For Slide Quest is another welcome distraction to add to the collection.
And a great one for teamwork.
A board game that plays like a video game; Slide Quest plays straight out of the box with your team of players levering an intrepid knight down a path past traps and fighting villains through 20 increasingly difficult levels.
It’s tricky for E at first, but soon gets the hang of it. It’s a threat game to teach younger kids teamwork and responsibility - who wants to be the culprit that sends the knight plummeting to their doom to the bottom of the box?
It does have a shelf life - we’ve only got to level 8 before moving on to another game. But the great thing is there’s a tracker included that allows the players to pick up where they left off with remaining lives intact. Not that we ever remember exactly where we were in terms of lives left. Turns out it does help if you have a computer doing that stuff for you.
Still, our quest does not end here. We’ve played this game with all ages, with two, three and four players and it works every time. Even people who aren’t necessarily gamers – who even scratch their head at a gateway game such as Carcassone – get what’s going on.
So, if you’re at a ‘mixed ability’ gaming table, it’s a good one to pull out.

Hugely original. It’s a great way to be part of a team with the kids. It’ll probably make for a good boozy night in with friends as well.
