Game review 82: Super Ski Jump
Flinging yourself off a big hill is a tricky conversion for the notoriously flat tabletop. But Goliath Games have made a good fist of it.
The Winter Olympics. Odd but fun. A curious mixture of death-defying activities, with some added dancing and mopping events thrown in.
The bobsleigh a bit too much? Here you go, have some curling.
You’d think that a 120m slope would be a tricky thing to replicate on a tabletop.
And you’d be right. But Super Ski Jump here does a pretty good, if simple, job of a tricky adaptation.
Pick a playing piece and send them down the slope, timing their descent at the right time to make them jump.
Points are awarded for style as well as distance, though I’m not sure how many ski jumpers I’ve seen in real life try a double somersault while flying off a cliff edge, so some artistic licence has been used in the rule book.
There’s a good mix of skill and luck that you’d fine in any good family game.
You’re not going to get many points if your timing is off, but there’s not much judgement going on in getting your jumper to land on their feet.

E’s review
What do you like about the game?
“It’s good you press the button at the right time. We have to practice to keep in trying to press it down at the right time. We can make it go very far and flying and I love how we do do it.”
Is it tricky?
“It’s difficult when we play it for the first time cos we don’t know how to press it, and after that they do just go flying.”
Marks out of 10?
“80/10”
My review
Set-up time
First time is a fiddle – about 20 minutes. But once assemble it’ll take about five.
Cost
£7-£8.
Practicality
The box isn’t big. Some of the pieces are hard to assemble though, and we have one skier who want fit on to its base no matter what we try. Sloppy.
Fun for parents?
A good game to whip out for a few minutes, but it won’t divert your attention for too long.
